Where does our story begin?  We guess it depends on who you ask.  If you ask Derek, he would say it began in the fall of 2010 when I came to know (as a friend) an intriguing woman who everyone who knew her raved about.  If you asked Alair, she might say it all started in the summer of 2011 in the Heart of Africa, specifically when she called me out after several days of flirting with her.  Many friends and family thought we began long before that when they had the inkling that they would make a powerful couple.  Perhaps we were all right in our own ways in our own times.  

 

Long story, less long:  we were acquaintances for several years with many mutual friends through Flood Church, in the fall of 20011 we became friends in our first Theodyssey spiritual development group, in the middle of which we agreed to lead a team to Uganda, where in early August we mutually “found” each other while 9,000 miles away from most of our core communities.  We dated for 6 months, became engaged while out on a hike, and 8 months later in October of 2012 we were married in Santa Margarita, California.  

 

Since then, let’s see…. We love to serve out of our unique and mutually enforcing strengths both for and with young adults and young couples.  We thrive on travels and adventures abroad typically in the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa, and the South Pacific.  We rest at home through investing in our little patch of ground by building, planting, watering, feeding, harvesting, and pruning.  We find peace in the call of the forests and lakes of the mountains.  Most of all, we love to host and live life with others of all creeds and cultures, life celebrations and life struggles.
